Fairy Light

Deborah Hendrick on Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

It rained most of the day, sustained and heavy, soaking the dry ground until puddles stood ankle-deep in the thick St. Augustine grass. By evening a towering thunderhead dominated the east, and clearing skies in the west left the sun to bathe the massive white cloud in pink and gold, creating a light found mostly in painters’ dreams.

Breathless, the girl ran outside and stood in it, surrounded by hundreds of glittering jeweled fairies—dragonflies in emerald, sapphire and ruby, who darted and danced. Dusted with gold, she twirled round about in the ballet light; in a breath it was all gone.

I love reading your stories, and I really love reading your description of San Leon. Wow, who knew you could make the ‘hood sound so divine. I am currently stuck in Florida, but my daddy lives on 23rd street, so thanks for the photos everything. I really love your site & will be back often! ;-)
